HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning)
From propane to oil heating, our experienced team can install, service and repair various types of brands to ensure we keep you and your family comfortable all-year-round.
You can rely on Leonard Heating & Cooling to use only the finest products from the most trusted manufacturers when servicing your equipment. Some of the products we recommend include:
Forced Air Propane Installation & Service
An ideal and affordable choice for families is to use propane for its safety, efficiency, and reliability compared to electric furnaces; you could save up to half the price! Plus, if you have a power outage, propane furnaces can keep running.
Most manufacturers of propane burning equipment state the following (or similar wording) in their warranties, “Proof must be supplied that the equipment has been properly maintained over the life of the warranty (i.e., a minimum of once-a-year maintenance).”
Oil Has No Hidden Fees (Because We Don’t Believe In Nickel & Diming)
Another choice is to go with oil heating. With today’s oil heat, a litre is a litre and what you pay is what you pay. That’s why today’s oil heat is another preferred source of heating for homeowners like you. Did you know that oil heat burns hotter, so you get heat fast to make you comfortable quickly? For every litre of oil burned, oil heat gives you 37,000 BTUs. Plus, you can improve your furnace’s efficiency by having it serviced annually.
The Technical Standards and Safety Authority Code B139 Series-15 section 12 states, “Oil-burning equipment shall be inspected and maintained in accordance with the manufacturers’ recommendations and to at least the minimum requirements in accordance with Annex L.”
L.1 Regular Maintenance
L.1.1 – The owner or operator of the oil-burning equipment shall ensure, at least once per year that it is maintained in accordance with Clauses L.1.2 to L.5.
Note: Maintenance should also be in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Annex L includes section L.1.1 to L.5. If you would like a copy of Annex L, please contact our office.

Safety Tips
No matter how you heat your home, you should keep in mind that maintaining your heat to a certain level is critical for various reasons. Freeze-ups can cause expensive losses in an empty or unoccupied home. Worse of all, water from broken pipes can flood a house in just a few hours causing structural damage to your house and loss of personal property. This is why we’d like to stress how important it is for you to protect your home against damage arising from a drop in or loss of heat. Since it’s better to be safe than sorry, we recommend that you arrange for supervision of your home if you plan to be away for any length of time.
Keep the path to your propane tank clear.
A clear path helps drivers get to your tank easily, fill it quickly, and move on to our next valued customer.
- Designate an area to pile any accumulation of snow safely away from any propane equipment. Advise snow removal companies of the location of your propane tanks and equipment, so they can keep clear of it to avoid damage and potentially dangerous gas leaks.
Allow your appliances to vent properly.
If it is safe to do so, clear snow and ice away from
outdoor vents, chimneys, and flues to prevent blocking any ventilation.
- Frequently check where snow or ice collect on your roof, structure, or nearby trees and clear it if you believe it might fall on any part of your propane system. Never shovel snow off roofs and onto propane equipment. Heavy accumulations of snow or ice falling on tanks, regulators, meters, piping, or valves may cause damage that could result in a gas leak.
Clear snow and ice from around your propane tank.
This includes regulators, regulator vents, piping, tubing, and valves. Use a broom instead of a shovel to prevent damage to your propane system components.
- Snow or ice accumulation can potentially cause parts of your propane system to crack or break, resulting in a gas leak. It is your responsibility to make sure that all propane pipes, valves, regulators, and tanks are clear of snow and ice. Gently brush away snow or ice that has accumulated around the tank, meter, regulator, and any other piping. Do this using a broom or by hand. If you must use a shovel, use extreme caution around all equipment. If you notice any snow or ice buildup that cannot be removed easily, contact Shute immediately. DO NOT attempt to remove snow or ice by kicking or hitting equipment.
- In high snowfall areas, drifting snow and snow and ice sliding off the roof may require additional regulator and vent protection. Consider installing snow protection or a “snow shelter” above your meter or regulator to prevent snow and ice damage.
Mark your tank with a brightly colored stake or flag taller than the maximum anticipated snow depth.
Also, mark your secondary pressure regulator or meter. It is usually near the side of your home. It is important to mark your tank and equipment to enable emergency and propane service personnel to locate it at all times.
Stay Carbon Monoxide Safe!
Never use a stove or bring your gas grill indoors for space heating, even during a power outage. Never use a portable generator (gasoline, diesel, or propane) indoors or in enclosed areas. Doing so can result in carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning or death.
Create an emergency preparedness plan and review it with everyone in your family.
Post a list with contact information for Shute Oil and Propane and emergency services (fire department, etc.) along with instructions for turning off propane, electricity, and water. If you do need to turn off your propane, contact a service technician to inspect your propane system prior to turning it back on.
Maintenance Tips For Your Home Heating System
When it comes to your heating system, regular maintenance is the key to preventing problems, such as oil leaks and spills, which can end up being expensive. Let us show you a few ways to save money, help prevent leaks and spills, and protect the environment.
Annually, we recommend that you visually inspect tank, piping and fuel delivery lines. If a leak is detected please notify us right away. Meanwhile, we can take the following steps for you, including:
- Clean your furnace and repair or replace damaged parts. A well-maintained furnace translates to lower fuel bills and cleaner emissions.
- Inspect the vent pipe each fall to ensure that it is free of obstructions as well as an audible signal (whistle) is on the vent. Our seasoned heating specialists listen for the whistle to help avoid overfills.
When appropriate, you should:
- Remove any abandoned fill and vent pipes immediately.
- Clearly mark the location of your tank’s fill pipe.
- Have a qualified oil burner technician install an oil safety valve or replace your fuel delivery line with one encased in a protective sleeve; these are inexpensive upgrades.
Remember that the older your heating system is, the more vulnerable it is to failure. Consider upgrading to a more modern, fuel-efficient system by calling us today.
